Bts - branding shoot with honey & heather

What a day! It didn’t quite start as we intended it to. We planned to take the photos at Roath Park Conservatory. It’s full of tropical plants and we thought the contrast between my pink suit and the greenery of the plants would be a VIBE! But it was closed for maintenance, and yes, we did check if it was open.

So, on that note we had to make it work and shoot from the outside. Luckily, they had planted a few tropical plants around the perimeter of the conservatory so we made it work there instead. The weather wasn’t exactly on our side either as it was on and off raining the whole time. That’s why my hair went from blonde wavy locks to up in a slicked back ponytail. Maybe it worked in my favour, the ponytail worked well with the pink power suit.

I planned to make an outfit change in the toilets, being civilized as I am but because of the closure of the conservatory I had to change in my car! I also forgot to bring a t shirt to go under my suit jacket, so at one point I was breaching park rules and was worried I would get caught for indecent exposure by taking my jacket off and using a tablecloth as a t shirt. Only a wedding stylist would have a tablecloth lying around in her car! I can’t tell you how thankful I was for it at the time.

We were balancing my lampshades from branches and luckily, I still had wire on my disco balls from when I used them at Christmas. So many people were walking past. Some asked what we were doing, some dogs came for a sniff around and inside I was thinking “please don’t jump on my dress, PLEASE don’t jump on my dress!” Muddy paws were not the look I was going for! We had two elderly ladies taking selfies with the backdrop (how cute!) and someone even asked was the set up for a celebrity!

Overall, you could say it was a bit of a disaster. But the incredible Heather put her photography direction skills to good use, and we got the shots. I’m no model but the photos ended up looking so cool and I was over the moon with them.

I had to share a little snippet of our day on the blog as it was too funny not to share. This day marked the final thing for me to do to be able to launch this very website. A start of something new for Abbie Leigh events & styling.
